Hi All, I have the rebuilt tranny in and just got the carb rebuilt. It turned out to be a Holley 4160 from a 72 Dodge Motorhome
Now, I seem to have an electrical problem. The car will start and as soon as I let off the starter it will die. The problem is the voltage at that point is intermittant to the coil from the battery voltage. I traced it back to what I think is the solenoid on the wall by the battery. I can jumper from the battery to the coil and it will start and run. Sometimes, although rarely, I have gotten it to start and run without the jumper so I know the problem is intermittant, whatever it is. Anyhow, the way I think it works is the solenoid provides ignition voltage to the coil when the starter is engaged but it is not once the ignition is in the on position. Will replacing the solenoid likely fix this problem?? Or is it the key switch that is the culprit? The car will stay running with this jumper in when I turn the key off and will then die when I pull it. Any help for this wannabe shade tree mechanic will be appreciated.
