I know I have seen this on here somewhere, but have no luck finding it. Someone actually examined one to reveal what was inside. As we all know, it's not actually a regulator, but allows you to easily connect their 3G Alternator without messing with a bunch of wires. Some people have said it allows the alternator light to work, and that may be part of its function (if you have one), and others say it allows the ammeter to work, but PA Performance's instructions clearly state that the ammeter must be disconnected, even when using this device. What is obvious when you look at the wiring is that part of it's function is to excite the alternator when the key is turned on.
What I'm trying to figure out is: IF I use this device, AND their alternator and then I'm on the road some place and the alternator takes a dump, can I go to the local auto parts store and get a Ford 3G alternator to get me going again, or will I need to rewire something? I'm a retired electrical engineer and I think I can make that judgement if I only knew what was in the dummy regulator.
I would appreciate your insight and here is their regulator replacement: 1G-3G Conversion (462802C)
