Hi,
I repainted my taillight panel with a single stage acrylic enamel with no hardener, but there is to much orange peel. I want cover it with clear (spray can) but don't know whether to use acrylic, lacquer etc...? Also, would 600 or 800 be good to wet sand the base coat?
Thanks for any input, I don't know much about paint (can you tell :p ).

Without hardner? You are gonna have to wait a LONG time before you repaint. Almost anything you spray on there will attack your new paint, so at the minimum, give it 90 days, more if you can. Otherwise,,, sand, seal, reshoot WITH a hardner then clear if you have to. If the rest of you car is not clear coated, then clearcoating this one panel will most likely not make you happy either, as it will have a totaly different sheen. Also, find a good jobber in your area ( PPG, Sherwin Williams), review his spec sheets for clear. They will list substrates you can paint over, but they stress a cured base.

you probably will not get enough material coverage from a spray can to fill orange peel,You may have to sand it with 600-800 to get it flat,A universal catalized clear will work ,but nothing from a can that I can think of,,Also if the color is a metallic, DO NOT sand it,unless you plan to repsray the color

You will not be happy with a rattle can clear. If you didn't use hardener with the enamel, it's also not going to buff very well. I would sand the panel back down with 400 grit, and respray the area with enamel w/ hardener. Then if it still has orange peel, let cure for 2 weeks, colorsand with 1500 grit, buff, and polish.

Thanks for the input guys. The reason that I had to use a rattle can, is that my buddy took his compressor back. I think that I'll have to sand it down, get a compressor and respray with hardener...
