I am happy to be old enough to remember when the Mustang was introduced and the uproar it created. Got a ride in a new 260 V-8 convetible that summer and thought it was the fastest car I had ever been in. But in 1966 I bought a new Fairlane GT and soon thereafter got drafted into the Army. Spent a year in that Southeast Asian country that's name starts with a "V", dreaming about coming home and trading the Fairlane in on a 'Vette. Got out of the Army in May of '68 and realized that a 'Vette was out of my price range. Later that summer I got a brochure in the mail from Ford Motor Company with pictures of all the new 1969 models. On one page there was a picture of the new Mach 1 taken from the side. I instantly fell in love. I ordered one the first part of October '68 and still have it and still love it. Sometimes I go into the garage and just sit and look at it. I will keep that car till the day I die. Am I sorry I didn't get that 'Vette? Not on your life.
