I hadn't really thought about that before now. I was 7 in '73. My parents bought a 66 sprint coupe from my aunt. Her mom had bought it from the dealer in 66 but wasn't able to drive soon after the car was purchased. I thought it was the best car I had ever seen in person. My parents other car was a 66 Pontiac Catalina 4 door. Next to the Mach 5 nothing had come close. I remember going out and sitting in the car and pretending it was mine and I was driving. Seemed like an adventure every time. One day, I put the car in nutral and it rooled back into the street before I realized I need to jump down on the break. I put it in park. She was right in front of the driveway. Good thing we lived at the end of a dead end street. No traffic. I went inside and my Dad had been watching me from the kitchen window. He laughed and said, "I guess I know which car you want to drive." He started teaching me to drive 5 years later. The first year was just in a parking lot and an empty subdivison. All streets and no houses. It was the first car that wowed me, and after that I was all into cars. Still am.
