What's your favorite year coupe?

I've been a fan of Mustangs in general and fastbacks in particular since before I was old enough to drive. I finally purchased a '70 fastback last year and have been slowly restoring it. Unfortunately, I have very little free time due to a hectic work schedule. If I spend any less time working on this car it will never be finished. If I spend any more time working on it my wife will either kill or divorce me, since it comes at the expense of family time. Being a realist, I have more or less decided to sell the fastback. I'm not ready to give up my dream of driving a Mustang on the weekends however. I hope to get around $10K for the fastback, which I plan to invest in a coupe. I'm thinking that I should be able to buy a nice solid turn key coupe for that, right?

To help me with the selection process, I would like to hear from all of you coupe owners. What is your favorite year for coupes, and why?

Well, 1968, of course. I think you can guess why. ;)

We've had a '65, 2 '66's and 2 '69 coupes. My favorite of all of them is the '66. I like the classic lines of the original style, and I think they actually drive better than the bigger '69/later cars. The '66 has a few more conviences over the '65 (particularly the early '65's), and I like the side trim and grill better on the '66 vs. the '65.

So, my favorite coupe is the '66.

Well, for the same kind of reasons Laurie AND the others mentioned, a '66 of course! :)
LAURIE? She said '68! What does she know!?!? ;)
 OK, wiseguy! I meant that Laurie said '68 because she HAS one, and I then included the rest of you because you mentioned all the high points of the '66! :p

(But then you already knew that, didn't you!?)

I like the '69. They look meaner with the broader quarter panels and of course the four headlight treatment. A '68 with fog lights would be second. An Acapulco Blue GT with white C-stripe would be nice.

for me it I would say the 68 coupe, but I really like all the coupes from 64.5 to 68. On the fastback I am going to say the 67-68. To me the early models look a little wierd in the back, while the 67-68 look smooth. :)

I like the 65 Coupes best. The grille and the chrome "air scoop" on the side looks a little better. The dash of the 66 is nicer though. If it's a GT, it doesn't really matter, as it will have the 5 dial gauge cluster and no side ornament anyway.

The 67 Coupe is also a favorite. The body lines look good, but the main advantage of the 67 is that it was refined in many ways over the earlier ones. Somehow, I like the 67 better than the 68. Probably the side scoops and the lack of side markers, because otherwise there's not much difference. I like the 67 interior better too, especially the Deluxe version.

I don't care much about the 69-70 and 71-73 coupes. By then, the cars really got the racier musclecar styling, which suits the fastbacks fine, but the coupes much less. It depends a little on how it is equiped, but some of them look "half race car, half 6 cylinder secretary car", which is not a great combination IMHO.
