I'm at the point with my engine rebuild where it is time to order pistons, rings, bearings, etc to bring to the machine shop. The block has been bored to .020 over. I have a set of GT40 (not "P") heads and will be running a Trick Flow stage 1 cam and a Weiand Stealth intake. This will be a mild street build running on normal pump gas.
1. What compression am I shooting for given that I want to just use typical pump gas? I assume I want compression around 9.0-9.5. Am I correct?
2. What pistons, rings, and bearings would you recommend for this application?
3. Do I need to replace the harmonic balancer? My machinist is recommending this pretty strongly although he hasn't seen the balancer that came on the motor that's being rebuilt.
4. What fastening hardware should I use? I have read good things about ARP Wave Loc rod bolts. Do those need to be press fit by the machine shop? Any other recommendations instead of those?
Thanks!!
