I've got a 65 289 which I'd like to convert to a ford duraspark distributer, but which duraspark is the best to use? Any other enlightenment would be appreciated. I'm currently running a GM HEI dist. that's been modified to fit the Ford drive and oilpump but it's just to big.
Thanks,
Bill

Painless makes a harness for this conversion but it's about $100. Also, the 76 Mustang II V8 had, from what I've been told, a more performance oriented curve to it. Not sure if that's accurate or not.

I had trouble with the MSD 6AL ignition box in the Fastback this summer (MSD distributor and MSD coil). Rather than do without the car while I decided what to do about the box, I went to the local junk yard and bought a couple of Duraspark control boxes (blue connector and IIRC the number on the box is #12A99); and several associated harnesses (everything less than $30). One box came from an 80s F-150 while the other came from an old 4 cyl Mercury Bobcat. The Duraspark box works just fine with the MSD coil and Distributor (the Duraspark distributor and MSD billet 8579 distributor use the same mag pickup).
