The car sat for about 2 months this winter without running. Prior to this the car ran fine, always started on the first turn of the key and ran smooth. The weather got nice and I went to start it and the carb flooded with fuel. Based on VMF advice I checked the floats and solved the flooding problem. But, the car is still running very rough. I pulled the carb and cleaned it, replaced gaskets, blew out all the passages, replaced the needle and seat valve and made minor float adjustments in accordance with the rebuild instructions. I did not make any adjustments to any adjustment screws since the car had been running fine on the current settings. Still running rough. I replaced the coil, coil wire, points, condenser, cap, and rotor. I checked the plug wires with a timing light and found that the #2 wire was not firing. I replaced the wire and it still is not firing. All of the others are pulling current but I'm not convinced that all the spark plugs are not firing. It is running too rough for it to be just one bad cylinder. I'm thinking it might be the plugs. They are showing a lot of black carbon deposits (too rich?). I put them in last summer and the car ran well through the fall. Also, which plug should I be running? Is there any way to check if the plugs are firing? (Pull them out and ground them?) Why is the #2 cylinder not firing? The timing has not been changed since it was running OK prior to this. Whatever happened, happened while it was sitting for the couple of months. Thanks in advance for your time.
