Hey there,
I have a 66' 289 4V and I would like to update my ignition system a bit.

I am looking at purchasing the following parts from NPD:
- IGNITOR II 8 cyl. dual point w/vac adv
- FLAME ThROWER COIL, 45,000 volt Pertronix II

Should I be all set to drop this in following the instructions from whisperer?
http://home.teleport.com/~cosa/vap/tech/pert/pertxhome.htm

Thanks,
_Seth

There are a few companies that make points conversion kits, any of them with a matching coil is a nice upgrade. I went with the Crane XRi as it has a built in rev limiter, might not be needed but nice to have as a backup for a missed shift. I think they make an ignitor III now with the rev limiter also. I'd follow the instructions that come with the unit and just remember that your car HAS a resistor inline from the ignition switch already so don't add another ceramic type one inline.

I am not familiar with the HEI conversion. What are the pros and cons vs the IGNITOR. Looks like the same end result but the HEI looks more popular with the chevy folks.

the hei can actually be used in place of the duraspark (ford electronic ignition box)

you can run an 80's duraspark dist from the junkyard and tie it into the duraspark box and it'll cost you basically nothing.

the hei is much smaller, and that's why a lot of guys like it

I'm not sure if price is a factor, or if you want a more factory look, but for myself, I chose the MSD Billet Distributor and MSD 6AL setup.
