So I have found a set of wheels here local for a good price that I feel like would compliment my new satin black paint job on my 65. They are 16x8 with 4.5 in backspace. I have seen a couple of different charts that show tire sizes and one says 225 50r16 all the way around and one says only in the back. Does anyone have any experience with this size of wheel and what tire size are you using? Really don't want different sizes front and back I prefer to be able to rotate them. My have 65 coupe with Shelby drop and 620 1 inch drop springs up front with 4.5 mid eye 1 inch drop leaf springs in the back.

Go safe or go max? Measure what you have and take a guess how far your suspension travels. I would find a used tire shop, SA should be filthy with Vulcanizadores:) Drop $20 on a single widest tire that might possibly fit and try it, no tread no balancing no problem.

I ended up finding a set of bullet rims from the 99-04 mustangs. I am getting some 235 45r17 nitro motivos mounted on them. I will post on how well they a fit after tomorrow once I get them on the car.

Got the new wheels put on the car tonight. They seem to fit without any issues except for the front passenger side was scrubbing the weight that was on the lip of the rim. I popped the weight off and it doesn't scrub anymore. I will take it by the tire shop and see if they can balance it with the stick on internal weights.

Looks sinister in a very cool way:thumbsup:

In my humble opinion......Keep your Original wheels.... They'll not only look better, but save you money and give you a better ride...and maintain the originality of your car... Just because you can add 20" wheels...Doesn't mean that you should..

With all that being said, The 17" 's that you chose in the end were not a bad choice.....One of the better ones IMHO...

My 2 cents..

Thanks for the compliments guys. Here is a better pic in the daylight. I agree with the whole sinister look. Which is exactly what I am going for. @NEFaurora while I appreciate your opinion, I have an idea of what my mustang is going to be for me. That doesn't include keeping it stock. There are plenty of original 1965 mustang coupes on the road. I drive my car every day and want something different for myself. I am making improvements to it all the time to make it drive and handle better. In just driving it today I feel like the wheels and tires have made an improvement. Especially in traction.

Looks good I’ve been semi serious in looking for a set later wheels as well. I have a Jones for the 99-04 Mach 1 wheels. Every time I see a nice set they’re too far away.

Not mine, photo borrowed

I picked up the rims for $250 from a guy locally. The 235 45R17 Nitto Motivos we're $104 apiece from Big O tires. The set of 1 inch adapters was $70 for all four. I like those rims that you posted too.

Late to the party.
Don't know if this will help much since the fenders are off the car.
I have 16X7 in the front and 16X8 behind.
Tires are 245/45/16 behind and 225/45/16 up front.

Just completing the restoration of the '65 and went with the Scott Drake Legendary 15's as the car is a 6 cylinder and Dagenheim 4 speed. Tire size is 15 x 215 x 60's all around and no rolling of the inners. Will drop the rear 1-2" to balance the front. Color is Champagne Beige metallic. Car has 54K original miles and was all original metal with the exception of the rear valence.
