Upgrading to 100a 1 wire alternator from Jegs. Replacing an Autolite 3 wire (no external regulator).

The battery post on alternator is hitting 289 block (see pic). I can't tighten down alternator and get the adjustment bolt in the adjustment bracket that bolts to the water pump.

Can I remove the bolts holding the two halves of the alternator and rotate the lower half so that it isn't directly under the main bolt?

Is there a better way to do this? :loco:

I'm using a similar alternator, it's a common issue. You need to "clock" the alternator, meaning remove the two (?) bolts holding the case halves together and rotate the alternator case 180 degrees. DO NOT pull the cases apart, it will be a PITA to reassemble (ask me how I know.) You don't want the output connection (a positive) hitting the block (a ground).

2 or 4 bolts?

So clocking is common? My Jegs happens to have 4 bolts (the old Autolite has 3), but the key point being remove all the bolts securing the two case halves and keeping the halves together twist (clock) to a better angle for installation, correct?

Thanks for the quick tip!:thumbsup::thumbsdown:

Yes, housing can be rotated on Jegs 1 wire alternator. Took 2 minutes. Now back to the install.

You wouldn't believe the hacking (is this only a computer term, not a auto hobby term?) I was envisioning.

Thanks again VMF and SAC69.
