What are people doing for a replacement front speaker on concourse cars? My car did not come with a front speaker or receiver... and I've since located and installed an original AM radio and would like a concourse speaker to match!

Thanks,
Rob

I don't have a MCA concourse manual. IMO there's probably no listing on the judging sheets for inspection to determine originality of radio speaker. I personally have never found a replacement dash speaker for vintage Mustangs that comes close to the factory original.

Ask around and buy the best one available through a Mustang parts supplier.
Otherwise cheat. Yeah, I said it. Take some cheese cloth, spray it black, put some sticky-glue around the perimeter of the speaker (the part that faces up) and stretch the cheese cloth over the top of the speaker.
At least I bought a Fomoco nos speaker for my Shelby. As an MCA judge, I don't recall trying to see if there is a correct speaker in there.

Hahahaha that's really funny! Yeah, I think I may just do that. I wanted to order the $12 speaker from NPD, but they were out of stock. I don't really want to spend $40 on a speaker for it... the AM radio doesn't really have that great of sound... so I think I'm going to checkout walmart today and see if they have any of the 4" x 10" BOSS speakers for $20. It is red... but like you've suggested, the black cheese cloth will cover that=P

Thanks!

I bought out a local radioshack up in New York and stocked up on about 20 of these speakers mint in the box 10 years ago before Radio Shack discontinued them. If you want one..It's mint in the box..$20 bucks buys it.. It's made by Radio Shack's REALISTIC division and is a dead ringer for the original speaker...High quality too. That's why I bought 20 of them!

Send me a PM if interested..

Great! Radio Shack used to have some good stuff for older cars. Their Realistic speakers were very close to OEM. I bought one of the $12 specials the Mustang parts people have.
It's a joke...the cone is almost flat paper, the stock AM radio would over drive this junker!

I'd get one of Tony's (Radio Shack)speakers!

I have a Radio Shack Realistic Optima receivers in my 68, fits almost perfectly in the stock bezel. Sounds great, got it about 10 years ago.
