Starting to put the interior back together on my '67 FB (fresh restoration) with 4-speed top loader and have some questions before things go wrong...

The shift lever is offset from the center of the hole (right to left) in the trans tunnel, should the hole in the carpet for the boot be offset as well OR if the upper boot is centered over the hole in the tunnel then the hole in the carpet is dictated by that?

Is the shift boot bolted to the tunnel OR are the upper and lower boot through bolted OR something else?

Other than how to slide the boot over the shift lever are there any other tips and/or tricks I should know about?

Are there any good online tutorials or videos that describe installing the lever, boot, cutting the carpet, etc., etc.?

The car's been apart for nearly 5 years so not sure exactly how it was when it came apart and don't have detailed photos of this area.

Thanks! Appreciate any information provided.

The carpet whether a 4spd or an auto, the carpet is cut to match the opening in the floor.
Since I have a console in my '67 4 spd car, I don't use the chrome dress up plate but my lower shifter boot I think is pushed up thru floor and upper rubber boot sits on top of it and all screwed to the floor. Been awhile since I've done it (12 yrs).

You don't mention if your "shifter lever" is the stock "T" handle.
If so, what many do either let upper boot sit awhile in hot sun, or soak in HOT soapy water, then just stretch in on over the "T" lock out handle. How I got mine on.

With the trans installed, drop the shifter into the lower boot and install the shifter, and pull the top lip of the boot through the hole in the floor. Install the upper boot. Install the carpet. Install the chrome bezel if no console is used.
