I still have not had any luck starting the GT40 crate motor in my '67. Timing is good, fire order is correct, have fuel, air and spark, just no run. It'll crank over four or five revolutions, and as soon as I pump gas in it will backfire and start flaming out the carb. I re-checked the timing for the fourth or eight time last night with both a pressure gauge on #1 and a plastic rod down the hole to feel when the piston was at the top. Fuel pressure is good and get spark at #1. What have I missed?
I just bolted everything together expecting it to fire right up like it happens on Monster Garage. I did not tear down the motor and check anything because it is straight from Ford, so it should be right, right? I did swap timing covers and made sure the dots lined up on the cam and crank, but I did not touch the rockers. Maybe the rockers are too tight and some of the valves aren't closing good???? It is a hydraulic roller motor, so I'm thinking the rollers aren't even pumped up enough to keep the valves open, maybe.
GT40 5.0 aluminum head crate, Edelbrock air-gap, Street Demon 625, MSD ready-to-run distributor and blaster coil.
I'm getting frustrated and drawing at straws, so any and all suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.
