64-66 seats in a 68?

One of my seat mechanisms on my 1968 is broken including a plate. I have been offered a set of 1966 mustang bucket seats and I'm wondering if they would work? Will they bolt right in or do I have to modify them?

Bolt-in. Apparently the previous owner of my '67 coupe took a liking to some -'65-'66 "pony" seats and put the whole set in. Even the rear fits, just has a little extra clearance on each side. I'm sure you know 67-68's are identical as far as size and fit.

They will all interchange. 1967 Standard Seat is Exactly Like the 65-66 Seat with the Bright Side Trim running up it. the 1968 Seat was basically the Same Frame but had the Seat Release Lever and Thicker Padding. I believe 68 was when the Tracks changed to the Integral Shim Plates. The 65-67 Tracks used the Separate Floor Shim for the Tracks.

Not trying to thread jack here, but I have a question about the '68 seats as well. I picked up a set of '68 seats for my '67. My question is can the seat back release be relocated down to where the '67 was originally located on the bottom? Or have you seen anyone use the side trim from the '67 seats with a '68 seat and side adjusters?

Just a thought on the side trim.

You can remove the Seat Release Mechanism and not use it. the 1967 did not have a locking Back, it just folded forward. I have never seen 1967 Side Trim with 1968 Seat Release Handles, I guess it could be done, but you would either have to lengthen the Handle-Lever Mounting Shaft or increase the Depth of the Shank on the Chrome Handle-Lever to include the Bright Trim Panel of 67. If you would like to lower the Chrome Handle, check out 1970 Seats, they had it down at bottom, and these could be retro-fitted to Earlier Seats also. .
