Hello All - I am just starting a restoration of an all original 65 Coupe ( Honey Gold w/Pony Int and Factory Ford Air )

The front frame rails on each side from the radiator support back about 6-8 inches each are showing a quarter sized hole - other than that - the rest of the rail is in very good condition since the car has sat in a garage for the past 20 years. Would you replace these very front sections of the rail - or replace the entire rail?

I will try to get some pics uploaded tonite. Matt

First, Welcome to the VMF!

Looking at the rails, are there any other areas of metal that are "soft"? If not, I'd just replace the metal that's rusted through. Depending on how bad it is you should be able to just weld in a patch.

Hey Thank you ! Actually I am in the process of pulling the 289 out now - but my initial inspection of the rail finds it very very solid - just the front section for some reason - The bumper brackets on the rails are badly rusted - which I guess ate into the rail - Matt

I will keep you posted - as I will no doubt have additional questions !
