Thanks to all who helped provide info over the weekend... I'm probably 80% done with the new wiring harness in the 65. Man that PO had a tonne of spit and baling wire ready to catch fire.

So the last two questions.

1) The repro harness from Mustangs unlimited has a heavy gauge wire (prolly 8 guage), black with a yellow stripe that exits the harness in the dash area right behind the guages. It terminates in a male plug. What is this???

2) Behind dash, hanging down close to the fusebox and wiper switch is a pair of black with blue striped wires of normal size. Anyone know what these are?

You are more than welcome. I'm just glad I could help. I can't browse forums like I used to,,just so darn busy. But I happened onto your posts and thought I might help. Just email if I can ever help. Hopefully the Registry tips pages can help folks also.

All my best.

Guys, thanks a million for the help. Just in case no one ever said VMF'ers rock... well I'm sayin' it now.

Whenever I get stuck, I mean really stuck, not that "I cant be bothered to read my manuals or search the forums" kind of stucK I know I can post a question and get some expert advice from the gang here at vintage-mustang.com.

Lance, you specifically have been a tremendous help over the last few day. My grateful appreciation sir!

Green/yellow and black/blue are both used in the courtesy light circuits depending on the application. Again I don't have my diagrams in front of me. I was just looking around before I left again on errands and your post caught my eye. If you would like me to walk you through anything, you can email me at webmaster@1970mgr.org and we'll get you fixed up.

All my best.

It might well be for the ammeter... the car is believed to be a GT and the replacement wiring harness is definitely a GT harness. I looked at the wiring diagrams but couldnt see the big black/yellow. Maybe thats because the diagrams dont cover the GT!

As for the black and blue courtesy lights, I thought the green & yellow circuit was for courtesy lighting?

Rob, is this a GT? The 65 GT's had the large gauge black and yellow wire feed through the loop on the back of the ammeter gauge. this is how you could tell a 65 GT. The black and blue wire is for courtesy lights as ivygreen65 said. And ivygreen65? That's a beautiful engine pic.

Anyway hope this helps.

If you don't have it already, here is the link to Dave Hammar's page for 65 wiring diagrams

If I remember correctly, the black/yellow wire attaches to the yellow wire from the ignition. The black/blue wires should be for courtesy lights (door, underdash, console, etc.)
