I just converted my coupe to a V8, still running the original I6 tranny. Now it leaks and leaks bad. When going down the freeway at 65 mph the tranny spits oil on my exhaust and makes a nice trail of smoke. A friend is converting his 67 coupe to a t-5 and could use extra cash for the conversion. I can get his C4 from him wich was rebuilt but leaks. A) If i use the stock 67' shifter and linkage will the transmission work fine?
B) Is it the same length? I know the housing is the same but will my old driveshaft fit the same? ( Both A and B i believe are correct just making sure) And lastly, C) Is $250 a fair price for both of us? i dont want to rip him off and i dont want to get ripped off, He feels the same way Thanks

Use your existing '66 shifter, linkage, and driveshaft. None will need any changes whatsoever. bc61 is correct in that your shift pattern will change to the more "conventional" P-R-N-3-2-1 shift pattern that started in '67. It is actually a common swap for people swap out their '65/'66 valve bodies to get rid of the goofy '65/'66 "green dot" shift pattern.

If the '67 C4 is truely rebuilt but leaking, $250 would be a fair price. Get yourself a seal kit (less than $50) and fix the leaks before you put it in. Anybody with basic mechanical skills can install a seal kit in a C4. With the tranny out of the car, the seal kit is easy to install, and will include all the seals the tranny needs to insure a leak free tranny. Installation time is only about an hour at the most. The seal kit will include o-rings for the shifter arm, kick down arm, and dipstick tube, seal nuts for band adjusters, front & rear seals and pan gasket.
