67 coupe project *updated 306 turbo soon

My father recently was able to purchase his first car, a 1973 gold plymouth roadrunner. Well in the process of tracking that car down, I found a mustang I was interested in. Im a boat mechanic but have always played around with things that move, so I thought why not get a muscle car to drive next to the road runner.

So I came across a 1967 mustang coupe with a 302 in it. The car is sound with a small rust patch on the rear quarter panel and a small spot on the trunk lid. The motor is all there and runs but the owner recommended I give it a go over. The interior looks decent. Dash isn't cracked, gauges are original, steering wheel has been replaced and the seats are shot. The frames can be used but needs new foam and cloth. He bought the car and drove it but recently wanted to restore it. He became ill and decided to sell it. He wanted 4k for it but then lowered it. I asked him if he would take 2700 cash on the spot and he said to pick it up saturday morning.

I am excited to finally own a mustang. My ex's father had a 1965 red mustang 289 convertible and it was great to ride in.

My end plans for this car is to move it from Florida(where I am at currently) and get it to Seattle(where I'm moving). I want to set the car up for the curves of Seattle. Any suggestions y'all have would be great!

I have pictures that the owner sent me but Ill get better ones. I love this site and how y'all take pictures of everything! Its better than a manual.

Have a great day guys and glad to be apart of the mustang community on her 50th year.

Will

Update for y'all...

Its pouring rain here in florida and Ive been helping my friend get his corvette running around.

In the mean time I got some parts in from Open Tracker. My camber kit and lower control arms showed up. The rest of it should be here thursday. I must say I am super impressed with open tracker products! The items showed up super fast, packed great, and are impressive looking items. The customer service is what really sold me! Shari and John are amazing to work with! All my parts for the most part will be open tracker if I can help it!

Wednesday marks the day I will be working full stride on the mustang. Engine will be back this week, I hope. The car is predicted to be loaded on a trailer on the 17th(as a roller) for its journey to my home in Alaska.

Im putting all my front suspension parts on it this week though to get it as a roller. Once I do that, I will throw a tarp on her and send her on her way. Im still gathering metal and suspension parts though. Next up will be the remaining metal for the car such as taillight panel, fiberglass material to make my own hood, front valance, door skin, and also the truck panel. Once all this metal is ordered, I will be ordering all stiffening components for the build. All convertible parts and subframe connections.

Anyone built a cheap rotisserie? I am trying to figure out an idea for one for my garage so I can weld under the car without being upside down myself. Anyway really to flip the car over works for me. Not looking to spend a ton, as I won't be using it much after this mustang build.

Thanks guys! Ill update with pictures of the new stuff from open tracker

What did you do about a Rotisserie?

Its been a while since Ive updated this. Sorry about that! Ive been venturing over at the pro-touring board along with moving all over.

I just wanted to give a small update and let everyone know I purchased a one piece fiberglass front end from usbody about a month ago. I have about 3 weeks left they think then I can go pick it up. Im pretty excited about it. Trying to figure out a hinge mount although I may just put clips on it similar to drag cars. Should shave some weight off the front.

Im working right now on engine setup at the moment. I was going to build an engine similar to 289nate had with big heads and a small cam but I may go a different route. Im still thinking about going turbo even maybe a rear mounted turbo or may just leave it NA. Im on the search for some good aluminum heads without breaking the bank though.

Im in the process of having the car welded at the moment. Its taking longer than normal just due to funds but should be cranking up soon as more cash flows.

Well guys! I kind of let this thread get away from me. I have had life get in the way as Im sure everyone has with builds.

Since the update I have taken a small break away from the project to breathe a little. I finished building my fathers 73 roadrunner, and I got engaged. So hasn't been just me sitting around.

I have been hesitant to post these pictures of what the car will become since I am still gathering parts but I feel like I will show everyone. Now before I drop the rendering, I want it known that this car is meant to be different, meant to bring a little style, and is meant to blend two types of cars. My favorite car is the nissan skyline and also the mustang.

Now no negative comments because of what the rendering looks like and will make the car look like. I showed a select group of people with mostly positive responses but a few decided to tell me since it was a 1 of 1100 based car color combo that I was ruining it. I disagree and believe that henry ford would roll over if he knew we weren't driving the cars he built.

The front clip is a one piece flip up front clip. I had it built by us bodies and those guys are awesome! The flares Im still trying to decide which size I want. The mirrors are from a nissan skyline. The rims Im trying to locate are from a cobra.

So without further a do. I present to y'all my mustang, the hybrid!

Thanks guys for the kind words! I got a lot of flank when I first showed a few people so I kept it from the public.

Im still undecided if I'm going to leave the word stand or just a black line. I took the idea from the AAR cudas. Always thought they looked great. The color is the original diamond green that makes the car so unique. I think it should turn out well. Not just need to track down those flares!

I think the design is cool, I even like the mirrors I just really dislike the location of them, brought back into the "factory" location would improve the look IMO.

Its your build and your money, dowhatchalike

Thanks guys! It means a lot to get your support.

Thanks jeffrey! Your build has a lot of influence on my car.

Israel, I haven't done anything yet. I need to do something though.

Dbasher, I haven't. I moved to Alaska and am now relocating back to florida for a little with the fiance.

A lot of mirrors are peoples problem thus far. The reason for them is because of the original Skylines that I love had them. I thought they fit.

Im currently am engineering a cool set up. I am mounting my radiator in the rear of the car with dual fans sucking in air where the rear quarter roll down glass should be or I will use the fender slots as an air source. Anyone ever seen a rear mounting radiator? Lots of drift cars use them.

The reason for this is because my front fiberglass clip(which is 30 lbs total) is closed off at the front. I can open it up but I decided to make it all flush to help the wind flow around the car.

The lights for the front are PIAA style 7" round diamond cut lights. Housing HID bulbs. I bought them all off amazon.

Hey guys,

Sorry for the crazy updates. Im going to try to update this more often. Just having to move and start work has cash flow on the low end at the moment. Should change soon though.

So I ordered a custom one piece entire front end. It weighs only 30 lbs all together. I went to pick it up and the guy built me one without a hood, except I ordered with the the hood. He is finishing up my front end now and it will be completed by the end of the month. While I was there I also order a fiberglass rear deck lid which is only 4 lbs.

Im contemplating putting fiberglass doors in although Im not sure of the weight savings with those. Anyone know what factory steel doors weigh?

Next question and I need yalls help. I am in a pickle in regards to my engine.

Right now it is a 302 bored .030 out with stock crank upgraded pistons and rods though. It has twisted wedge heads and induction solutions LSX upgraded springs. Im going to put 1.7 roller rockers on as well. It will be getting a custom grind by induction solutions. An edlebrock RPM aluminum intake is on top.

Here is my question. My goal(main word goal) is to me as close as I can to 400 rwhp with the right combo. Based on my research is can be done. I was going to go turbo but Im trying to keep weight down and heat down.

So heres my question. For canyon carving what kind of power curve should I be looking at? I can still go turbo or I was really wanting to do individual throttle body efi.

I just am not sure what power curve is best for the canyons.

Thanks guys for the help! I am on the hunt now for a 8.8 rear with 3.73 gears and disc so that should help.

So here is my questions.

1)What is the weight of stock steel doors without glass?

2)What is the best power curve for canyon carving?

3) Will a crown vicke aluminum drive shaft work with our cars?

I weighed an original 100% stripped 65/66 door today and was surprised--it weighed 35lbs on a postal scale. I checked and it has no body filler on it nor does it have multiple coats of paint.

What does a bare fiberglass door weigh?

The fiberglass doors weight somewhere around 8 lbs a piece. That is a significant weight savings. Problem is though you can not use windows of any kind anymore.

Just a small update for the new year! Sorry about not posting as much, I've been lurking around but just have been slow to post. Im getting welding lessons and got a new welder from Santa so I should be turning this car around very fast.

I ordered a flaming river 16:1 quick ratio steering box for the mustang. The fiberglass complete front end as well as the fiberglass deck lid is done and I will pick them up next week. I am ordering a set of cheater upper control arms from open tracker. That should complete my entire front end suspension.

I will be ordering the rest of the sheet metal to repair the problems that the car has as well this week. That should keep me busy for the moment.

Also I finally named the car. The car shall be named Project Sicario, which is a hired assassin. I feel like this is fitting since this car is my assassin that no one will see coming.

I know this is against many people here but what size radiation do y'all thing I could fit in the trunk of the car? Im rear mounting the radiator but Im not sure if I should go with a 2,3 or 4 row radiator. Thoughts?
