67 Fastback 390 Transmission code 5

Hello all,
I recently purchased my brothers 1967 Mustang Fastback GT. The car originally had the 390 engine but was changed to a 289. I am going back with the 390. How do I tell or identify the transmission type?
I know it's the 4 speed but how do you know if it's the T5 or T10? This may be a dumb question but I simply don't know.

Your car should have come with a 4 speed toploader.

For a '67 like mine, 390 4 spd, your trans id tag should be a RUG-M or a M1.
M1 was mostly 68 390 cars, M2 was '69 390 stangs

Also a fairly hard item to find will be the orig manual trans cross-member unique to the 390 4 spd.

Look for the correct top loader. Different input shafts for a small block / big block.

The T10 is a 4 speed, but your car probably came with a Ford T&C trans, commonly called a Toploader. A T5 is a 5 speed transmission, designed for much later small blocks.
