Hi,
My Mach 1 is completely restored with all new or refurbished parts.
In less that 200 miles of driving I have burnt out 2 new starters and 4 new starter solenoids.
Each time the problem starts when I am cranking the car.
I turn the ignition switch and the engine starts but the starter keeps running. I am unable to stop the engine by turning the ignition off. Even after disconnecting the battery the starter turns until it burns out.
I have been fortunate that the issue has not resulted in a fire.
I also had a situation where I drove the car and when I pulled it in my garage, it would not turn off. I disconnected the battery to stop the engine.
The ignition cylinder, ignition switch, and all the wiring is brand new. I have triple checked the wires on the solenoid.
I now have a new Motorcraft solenoid installed. I purchased an NOS ignition lock cylinder.
I am now working to purchase an NOS Motorcraft ignition switch D1AZ-11572-C (SW-1054).
Can the problem be something other than the ignition cylinder and ignition switch?
I would greatly appreciate feedback from the forum experts.
Thanks. Norman.
