Is it normal for a steeda tri ax shifter to feel extremely close ratio? I have the tranny out of the car and bolted the shifter on tonight. I cant feel any real difference between first to second or third to fourth etc. Are these shifters really that close a pattern? To me I cant even really feel fifth gear? Normal?

I have a friend that has a Steeda shifter in his 93 Mustang. Yes it has a very short throw on the shifter. The one thing about his is that the shift lever is very short. If I had that short of a lever in my 69 I would not be able to shift the car without leaning way forward and to the side. So if you put a longer lever on it the throw of the shift will also be longer.

It is a very short throw, but I find it to well gated. I never have any problem knowing what gear I'm in. That short throw makes it so you can do lighting fast shifts. There are two settings on the tri ax. If you are uncomfortable with too short a throw, go with the longer setting. I like the short throw personally. If you're good with a stick I really don't think you should have a problem with it. I don't want my mustang to drive like my truck...

You'll find the gears, no problem. Mine feels like it has radar and finds the next gear almost on it's own. Positive stops are great as well.

You are correct, going into 5th, almost feels like it is not going into gear at all.

Bottom line, it will be a very welcome change from the stock shifter.

If you feel the Steeda has a shirt handle, you should try a Pro 5.0.

I have one in my '98, and these have do have a much shorter throw than most shifters...isn't that one reason why you chose the Tri-Ax? They have a close, solid feel to them, but this is a good thing for a street shifter's ability to make quick and consistent shifts. It will feel different (maybe a bit notchy at first), but I'm sure you'll soon realize the advantages of your new shifter once you get used to it.
