Funny you should ask! :)

I have an AOD behind my 351C right now. I have had no problems, and my wallet THANKED me this week on the drive to CF4. If you go with an AOD, you can stay with your 3.00 gears, but I think you would probably be happier bumping it up to 3.25 or 3.50.

My mileage went from 17MPG on the road to CF3 to 20+MPG (depending on conditions and how much "sport driving" I did). There is a measurable mileage advantage to the AOD.

You are gonna need a flexplate, throttle valve cable, block plate w/ inspection cover, starter for an automatic, shifter linkage, driveshaft yoke (driveshaft could need a length change), and a dipstick and tube. I would also get new flexplate bolts since they are cheap and good insurance.

its already a automatic so i am assumeing the starter is ok, is there any electrical to hock up? what about a speedo cable, and WHERE DID YOU GET BRACKETS FOR THAT PAXTON on the 351, did you have to fab them? oh what ratio are you runing, for the coupe im doing for my wife i dont care about to much power, i am going to see if i can hit the 25 mpg mark? :p i bet i can get close, probally need a holly 2v instead of motorcraft?

No. Go with a small 4 barrel. If you're not driving hard you'll spend about 95% of the time just running off the two front primaries, which are significantly smaller than a typical 2 barrel carb = noticeably better mpg.

the original speedo cable fits right into a AOD. You may need to change the plastic gear, but thats no biggie.

and your are better off with a 4 barrel for mileage, the 'big' parts of the carb only kick in when you beat on it. ::
