Blowing Coolant !!! ....... ( Manifold ? )

Hello,

Well, I've been blowing coolant for about 2 years now and I can't seem to figure it out. I've had the passenger head off twice (milled and a new gasket) and I have a new 4 core radiator that works great.

But....I just can't figure out where it's coming from. It only seems to happen under load.

It had kind of let up a bit lately until I noticed some air leaks around the manifold so I retorqued the manifold and then took the car for a drive. Better performance but I had coolant all up under my hood and everywhere. Let's just say it's back with a venegence.

So...does retorquing the manifold tell me anything about the cause of the coolant being pressurized?

Also, any tips on how to find what's causing it? At this point it's really pi&&ing me off.

Thanks, Greg.

Get a hold of a coolant system pressure checker and pump it up to specs (13-16 lbs) and you should be able to see where it's coming from.

Unfortunately it sounds like you may have a crack in your cylinder wall. I had one before and the compression produced pressure in the radiator. Do you have one spark plug that is cleaner than the rest? If so that is the cylinder that is cracked. I hope its not the problem, but it was mine. LOL!

Do you have a hose on the radiator overflow connection? Or do you have a coolant catch tank? If you don't have a hose on the radiator overflow, it will spray everywhere when it is overfilled. Have you tried revving the motor by hand at the carb while in park? Is the entire engine bay covered or does it seem to be more heavily sprayed in a certain location? Checked all the heater and radiator hoses for leaks? It would leak at idle though but will definitely make a mess. I had a leak around the temperature sender in the intake but it didn't spray everywhere. Also check the waterpump and timing cover gaskets to see if it is leaking there.
