I went to move the tube slightly to bolt it down and the darn thing snaped off at flush with the timing cover..how does replacement work? need another timing cover? and how do the replacement chrome dip stick tubes work? will they go right in even though I broke mine? do i have to drill the hole in the toming cover bigger? Help!

It may be possible to thread a bolt/screw just a TINY bit larger than the inside diameter into the tube and pull it out.

If I had to do that, I'd change the oil before starting it just for piece of mind (metal particles).

The piece could be removed with the cover off....that involves removing the oil pan and all the front dress, including the balancer.

You can pretty easily make a tool to get it out of there. Get a steel dowel the same size as the ID of the tube that broke off. Hacksaw a slot in the end (across the diameter) to a depth of about 1". Take a file and file all but the last 1/4" of the dowel (for a length of about 2") to a size that will fit inside the old dipstick tube easily. Make the edge between the smaller OD that you filed and the larger OD that you left alone really sharp 90 degree angle. Take a screwdriver and pry the two ends apart slightly so you have to force them together to get them in the tube. Push the dowel into the tube. When the unfiled part gets past the end of the tube it will spring out and catch the end of the tube. Put some vise grips on the opposite end of the dowel and tap upward on the vise grips with a hammer. The tube will come right out! The longer the dowel, the easier it is to accomplish the hammering part ::
