Hello everyone,

I just wanted to hear some opinions on 66 Mustang emblems.

My emblems are old looking but in decent shape. How do judges look at emblems? Original or repro(Scott Drake) which is better?

I've looked over and compared the original 289 to the SD repro. Here is what I see. The original has much sharper corners and the 289 numbers are a little fatter.

My original running horse does not have an eye like the SD repro, and the far back leg is smaller on the original.

The mustang script looks identical on both the new SD repro looks cleaner.

The pics of my originals are small, if you want full size let me know.

Let me know your thoughts. Am I nuts, or just a crazed Mustang restorer?

Thanks

Allot depends on the class you enter. But I would guess the scenario is one of the concour classes. Judges will look at the condition and the details. Expect it. Being human each judge will focus a little more on one area than another but our expectation it that it all works out in the long run.

Reproduction parts are allowed in the classes we are discussing but the reproduction need to look like the original. Saying that there is not much room in the scoring sheet (since percentages are not allowed - only whole points) so the judge is left with the problem of how does he or she reward the person that spent the time and effort to do the task just a little better.

In these cases you might find comments on the sheet notating the short coming but taking no points. To let you know that they noticed the item. If there is a couple of these you should find these as "free-bees" (s?)

But if there are a fair number of them you might find a since point deducted in the misc area of that section with a comment such as "misc deductions noticed elsewhere". In this way the deduction is small but the points are reserved for other owner that did the job just a little better.

Hope this helps... sure we will get some comments from other judges. Good question!!

It depends on what class you plan to enter if you show it. The original 65/66 260/289 emblems were anodized aluminum. If you're showing in concours, you can get away with the chromed repro, although NOS would be a nice touch. In Thoroughbred and Unrestored, they would have to be the original type.

Same with the other emblems...
