Need Advice for a mustang newbie... I have a 1967 vert with an inline 6 and c4 auto tranny, 6 cylinder rear end and I want to put in a 302. I have an opportunity to get a 302/c4/rear end from a 1971 grande so my question is will this engine fit my 67 I thought I read there was a cutoff date for fitment somewhere I thought it was 1975 but not sure.

Thanks for any advice!

Not sure, but you might want to research if you'll need heavier coil springs... Might only apply to swapping to a big block (which might present a fitment issue as well), but a small block will bolt right up. 1975 would have been "Mustang II". I'm pretty sure the 302 was the biggest engine that would fit, and everything from the tranny back would be too small. '71 train should work just fine. I'd put a "72" on the cutoff, but what do I know? :)

That engine and drive train will be fine. I'm currently in the midst of a a swap too, so I'm hoping you're aware that there are more pieces that need to be changed than just the drive line. You'll need V8 spindles and brakes, V8 coil springs, the wiring harness is slightly different too I believe. A Monte Carlo bar isn't necessary but is a good idea. I'm probably missing a few things, but just be sure to research exactly what all you'll need.

You are quite correct. While attempting to use the 71 axle in the 67 might be tempting, the extra width will cause problems. Find a 67-70 axle.

The 302 will fit right up to the last production one made for installation in a vehicle in 2000. The C4 will as well. The '71-73 rear axle is an inch wider per side. With '71-73 "F" codes still getting 8 inch rears, you might have better luck finding a 9 inch of the correct width in a '67-70 Fairlane/Comet/Mustang/Cougar with a 351 or bigger.

I like the CSRP kit for stock discs and new hubs.

If you aren't going for mega-power, you can pick up a new 8" rear end, complete, for relatively cheap.

I have the exact same car and did this swap, and it wasn't bad.

I went ahead and converted the fuel line to a larger size as well. New coils up front, but mine needed trimmed to bring the nose back down. While you are in there, do an Arning/Shelby drop.

Thanks everyone your advice is great! I should have mentioned I just completed the entire suspension with a V8 in mind and it has 4 wheel disc that were done by the previous owner and we just finished the rebuild on them too. The monte carlo bar is a good add I didn't think about so might do that too.
