fast blinking blinkers?

Is this normal?
All my lights work, (Headlights low & hi, parking lights, under dash and instrument lights, brake lights, all four directionals) the only one out is the shifter indicator. So, when I put on a turn signal they blink really fast. Like 3x per second. I recently removed and re-installed the steering column and replaced the steering wheel. Any ideas if there is a problem? I don't remember what they used to work like, but they are much faster than my 68.
Does that mean the car can go faster now?::
Thanks

Hey Pete, Nicks Crown Vic does the same thing but with one side only...I know it doesnt help...but your not the only one with this problem either :: Maybe a support group? Take care, Dawn

My passenger blinker will not blink. It'll light up, but not blink.

I recently removed and replaced my blinkers when I painted my car. I have a fiberglass valance, but have a good ground. Where are my shorts.

You're topless and you don't know where your shorts are...sounds to me like you should stay in the house. ::

Hey Dawn – we had a '94 Taurus a while back that did the same as your Crown Vic whenever a bulb was burned out. And it burned bulbs left and right! If the blinker went turbo-fast, we knew a faulty tail light bulb was probably the culprit. As soon as it was replaced – problem solved.

Perhaps Nick should do a quick once-over of all his bulbs. May even be the cyclops light if the tail lights check out...

Yeah, but it cuts down significantly on laundry day.

Blinking faster means there's too much current in the circuit. A short after the flasher WOULD draw more current, but would likely also not allow the current to get to the bulbs.

More than likely your flasher has some sort of internal short, or your using the wrong bulbs (brighter bulbs will draw more current, and heat the flasher up more, causing it to flash faster). I'm assuming it's equal on both sides BTW. Oh, if your alternator is overcharging it could happen too.

For topless, your blinkers won't blink unless BOTH bulbs are working (parking and turn). For example, right now on my '65, the dash light blinks on left turns, but on right turns the light stays solid...the problem is my parking light pigtail is busted. There isn't enough current to trip the flasher unit.

ah-HA! I know one of my brake lights is out. That is probably the culprit?
