OK help me out. In an FMX to AOD swap what determines the version of flex plate to be used? Is it the engine size (3512 302 etc) or is it the model of transmission? The 1970 351W is a 164 tooth 28 0z imbalance flex plate, while the AOD uses a 164 50 oz or 28 oz imbalance. I've read where in a AOD swap, one can use a 69/70 351W flex plate with an 86-93 AOD trans. So I'm believing that my 1970 164 28 oz Flex Plate is the way to go. Am I correct? Thanks

You are correct. The thing that confuses me, is why places like WF sell the 164 tooth 28 oz "conversion" flexplate. Seems to me, people would just go buy a 351w 164 tooth flex plate. Equally as confusing to me, is why the owner of the machine shop where I had my engine built didn't realize this either. Instead we bought a 50 oz 164 tooth flex plate and machined it down to 28 oz. when they balanced the engine. It didn't cost me any more to go this route, as the machining was included in the balance job, but seems they could have saved themselves some work.
