I have read through a few books and manuals. But, I need to take in the infinite wisdom that is the VM forum...

Did a 1972 mach 1 with a 351C/FMX trans.-auto. have, or could be fitted with, the kickdown rod for shifting the transmission into low gear?

I have a 72 LTD with a 351C/FMX that has the kickdown rod.

Mine is missing. I din't know it was gone when the car was drivable so I don't know if it really makes that big of a difference unless your looking for concours. I looked for quite a while to find a replacement and came up with nothing. I only looked for Mustangs but you might be able to get one from a Torino or someting similar.

ebay.....

Theyre a good thing to have, especially if you have a good bit of gearing or a motor torquey enough to pull the car along in top gear rather easily (it wont want to kick down easily).

If you are not looking for a concours look,,,but want the trans to drop into second gear when you are into the carb,,,you can adjust the modulator valve tighter by screwing in "in" to make it much more responsive when the vacuum drops into the basement on a hard throttle situation. FMX and C6 transmissions respond well to this tweaking.

Lokar makes a cable kit to replace the metal rod. About $80 for the kit and the bracket that attaches it to the carb. Fits and works very well.
