Hi all, I’ve been having issue with gauges and dash pod lights and notice my fuse box is trashed with none original fuses left by a wanna be electrician. Also there is a condenser/resistor looking thing with a single cable next to the fuse box. The cable/wire is not connected tor anything but I don’t know what it is. Radio suppressor? Not sure any help? Also, since I live out of the country I called Oreillys regarding fuses, what losers. They told me to bring it in. I said I live out of the country I will have someone drop by to pick some up. He said aisle four. I said but do u have them. Glass fuses 14, 20, 4 amp? He said aisle 4. I am not sure my wife will be happy walking around trying to figure that out. I asked about the item below the dash. He said I’m a hummer mechanic, can’t help I with that. O well any help from u all is appreciated

You might want to try a different parts store. NAPA lists them on their web site using Bart's numbers and you can reserve them to pick up in the store. Or call them. Around here NAPA hires people who know what a fuse looks like, unlike some other stores.

NPD lists them online too if you happen to be placing an order already. Otherwise the shipping fees will cost way more than the fuses so that probably won't work.

But try a different chain with a store where your wife's going to be. There are some good ones out there, you just have to find them.

I'm pretty sure 69 and 70 have the same fuse box. They were practically the same car except for having two headlights instead of four. That other thing is the radio noise suppressor... although it's usually located under the VR inside the engine bay.

69s and 70s are essentially the same car, but there were some major wiring changes. 70 was the first year that Ford used fusible links. Your fuse block is the same as a 69.
The soldered fuses are FRIGHTENINGLY INSANE. You must repair that before a major melt down and or fire.
I suggest you join 69Stang.com forum- its specifically for 69s and 70s. There is a full car schematic in the How Tos section titled A Real Schematic. The fuse panel is on page 5.

Thanks for all the comments guys. You are all right, that box is nasty. I had the electrical work done when I was out of the country and the car was being put back together by a local “Restoration shop”. All the lights and turn signal have always worked fine so I never checked the box after they put it together 6 years ago. I’ve only driven it about 50 Miles a year since it was put back together. I only started to tinker cause the fuel gauge and dash lights have never worked, also one other gauge, and they also wires the fog lights directly to the headlight switch. Now it’s time for a overhaul of the electrical. I’ve attached a pic of my Mach and my other toy, 71 cuda

while your up in there, disc the batt and take a small wire brush and clean the terminals

use a dab of dielectric grease on the new fuses

consider yourself very luck in that you still have a car

It's hard to believe that there aren't electrical problems somewhere with what that fuse box looks like it's been through. But maybe there aren't and someone couldn't come up with the fuses and did what they did. Online retailers sell fuse kits. Forget about advice from the Oreillys counter. CJ Pony Parts sells a kit that contains 25 fuses. 5 fuses for every space in the box.

If a shop really did that, stay far away.

fuses and fuse box 1970 Mach 1

Again, thanks for the comments and directions. I have done some reasearch and just as an FYI wanted to share in case anyone else has difficulty sourcing fuses. Wouldnt seem like a big deal, but here it is. The fuses I need for my 1970 mach one are one 4A, three 14A, three 20A, and one 30A.

I checked NPD, their kit comes with one 4A fuse and the rest are not compatible for a 70 mustang (15 A, 7.5 A, 2.5 A, etc.)

The CJ Pony Parts comes with five 14A fuses and five 20A fuses and the rest are not compatible with a 70 mustang.

If you want all the fuses you need for your mustang you would have to order the NPD kit and the CJ Pony Kit, and then source the 30A from Mustangs unlimted: YOu would also be left with a bunch of extra fuses I guess you could give to your 68 and 67 mustang buddies.

The better option, if you need all the fuses, is to do what Magnus suggested and buy them piecemeal from NAPA. In my case the US NAPA website is blocked in El Salvador. I presume becasue there is a NAPA store in El Salvador, but they do not sell the fuses nor will they order them.

I am back to getting a buddy in the US to go to a NAPA and pick them up and send them to another buddy here. SUch a hassel for some measley fuses

You might also try looking around at other, non-automotive stores. You could get lucky and at least pick up a couple of them.

I've seen glass fuses at some hardware stores, boating / fishing stores and farming / tractor supply stores. You probably won't find all of them, but it's worth looking if you have any in your area.
