I had a previous thread where I received a ton of great help and advice on getting my motor running. Had one electrical problem (unbelievably diagnosed by several on the forum) and one carburetor flooding problem.
I purchased a rebuilt carb on ebay c5zf-b to match the numbers to the time of build of the car. When i installed it it was pouring fueled into the engine. So bad it fouled the oil which i changed. I was testing before i put the exhaust system in and had a fire at the outlet of the exhaust manifold on the passenger side.
I put my old carb back on and the car runs, not great, needs tuning, (timing, carb). I am hesitant to work with my recently purchased carb, actually terrified, i am not excited about lighting the car on fire with all i have into it.
the carb i purchased on eBay was supposedly bench tested. HA!. It came with an extra slosh tube rattling around in the fuel bowl, the main well under the weight and ball was full of grit.
questions:
1) what would be the the most likely culprit for pouring all of the fuel into the engine?
2) if it is the power valve, is there a way to test this power valve?
3) if i have to get a new one, what spec should i get (i.e. in-HG)
4) How can i bench test the carb before putting it back on?
5)
I may throw in the towel on this one, not by logic, but by emotional scarring! I am considering another unit that was for a 64 1/2 260 that has a 1.01 Venturi vs the current 1.14 Venturi. I am not building a racing hot rod, if i go with the smaller venturi carb, will i notice a performance difference?
