I’m thinking of going with a GPS speedo when (and if) I swap out the factory gauges.

Anyone use them? Pros? Cons? Would you recommend them?

I have a Speedhut GPS speedometer.

PROS:
Accurate speed reading regardless of gear ratio or tire size changes.

CONS:
Occasional signal loss in parking structures and tunnels.

Even with the occasional signal loss, I would recommend them simply because a speedometer gear change isn’t needed with transmission, rear end gear ratio or tire size changes. I’m currently running a C4, but will swap in a 4R70W when my new engine is ready. That would have required a speedometer gear change if it wasn’t already a GPS speedometer.

I also did a diff. swap from a 2.80 open to a 3.55 LSD 2 years ago. The GPS speedometer didn’t care.

As for signal, it doesn’t matter if I lose signal in a parking structure or tunnel. Those are the places where I’m more interested in not hitting someone than what the speedometer says.

Since you were recently looking for a T5, a benefit would be using a T5 from a 99-04 3.8L V6 (ID # 1352-260) for the better gearset and torque rating without having to worry about adding a speedometer gear and Foxbody or 94-98 tail housing.

I got the Cobra Road Scout. It's not only a GPS speedo, it's also a radar detector and dash cam.
