Hi all,
I am about to install my '69 302 stock heads back on.
So i got new ARP head bolt kit and Fel Pro 8548PT2 head gaskets.

My dillemma is that the ARP instructions say to use their moly lube(which is in the kit) and torque all bolts to 70 FT LBS.
The Fel Pro instructions say (for non TTY bolts) to torque the short bolts to 70 FT LBS and the long bolts(intake side) to 80 FT LBS.

What would you do? Would it be ok to torque the ARP bolts on the intake side to 80 FT LBS?

I used the FelPro settings. Its the same that the Edelbrock aluminum document had. The shop manual for 67 shows 65-72 lb-ft for the head bolts.

I just did this (reinstalled stock cylinder heads) for my 1967 Mustang 289 with the ARP head bolts and same FelPro gasket that you referenced. I followed the ARP instructions and used the ARP bolt lube. It worked perfectly. Runs like a champ. Just remember to torque the bolts in stages as instructed. It is also not far from what is in the shop manual which indicates 65-72. Good luck.

Torque goes with the lube, most torques are specs at 30 w oil. If you use AARP bolts use AARP lube and use AARP specs. DO NOT DEVIATE. I thought I was being smart and used some left over AARP lube on my Triumph TR3nand pulled a stud right out of the block. Then I got the lecture from my machinist. He showed me at chart on his wall of torques vs bolt size and at the bottom was the astrisk on every torque and the astrisk said, using 30w oil...

NEVER DEVIATE, stock torque, 30w - AARP bolts AARP oil, AARP torque spec and don't forget to pay the $14 to join AARP if your over 55 or your headbolts will strip...

head scratcher ;o)

Thanks for your replies!
I will tighten all bolts to 70 ft lbs as per ARP instructions with their lube. The lower bolts are running into coolant(+'85 block). I was thinking to put Locitite 5923 (similar to Permatex 3 *** Aviation sealer) on these.
