What I have is new pop open gas cap with no spring seal
on it. What I would like to know is how do I get the
old spring seal off the old gas cap and on the new one?
Thanks, Eric

I've taken 2 apart.. 1 I cut the post off the back and knocked out the inner cover from behind with a punch. A screw holds the spring loaded seal to the post. All you have to do is tap the new post, screw the seal on and reinstall the inner cover. I dented the inner cover a little at the center but i took a socket that was the same diameter and tapped it baci ito shape with a hammer... The cap turned out great. The other one I did I tried to pry out the inner cover from the front and ended up damaging it more than I wanted to. The only problem with driving it out from behind is you have to destroy the cap. Good luck

No, No, and no. The reason it doesn't have the spring section is Ford discovered how dangerous this setup was. The cap could pop open in an accident and spill fuel out. All you need to do is pickup a regular gas cap to fit the fuel neck. Go down to the local parts store and get a Stant. Part Number 11640. Pop open the cap then screw the Stant right on. There may be a slight modification needed so the pop open cap will close fully, but that's what you need to do. It's a saftey thing. ::

I agree with 70Droptop- Get a stant gas cap. I have an original pop-top gas cap on my car that gives me fits with fuel vapors leaking out, and popping open on bumpy roads and stuff... Plus, it just isnt as safe. Its bad enough that the tank can rupture in a collision- but coupled with a pop-open gas cap, thats just more fuel on the fire (really bad pun)!
