I have a Tremec TKO transmission that is going into my '65 Mustang and I am using an electronic speedometer. I have read some conflicting information and I am hoping that someone can verify a few things for me.

1. Is there only one spot on the transmission to hook up a speedometer whether it be a mechanical or electronic?

2. Would I use the sensor in the following link to hook up the electronic speedometer and then simply put a plug into the mechanical end? -

Thanks for the help!

You have the same version I do. It has the large 21 spline input shaft and 31 spline output shaft. It's very close to the current TKO500 and TKO600. It does not have a built in VSS. You'll have to get an aftermarket sending unit to use an electronic speedometer.

That would be a cheaper alternative and would defiantly clear the transmission mount mounting pad on the tailshaft. I had to notch my tailshaft to get my Autometer sender to fit. My only question is, how many wires does it take and and what is the wiring diagram? Also looks like you'd have to acquire the specific connector to hook up the wiring to it? If I remember right, the Autometer one takes a 12v power source.

The Ford VSS is only a two wire sending unit - IIRC, one is a ground and one is the signal wire. I'm running efi, so i just tapped the wire going to the computer. the wiring plug, you could get it from a junk yard, like pick'n'pull or order it from fordfuelinjection.com at RJM Injection Tech — Vehicle Speed Sensor

I'm using the Autometer elect. speedo. On the vss sender, ground one wire and the other goes to the Autometer guage. FYI. If you are running a cruise control you can get the vss signal for the cuiuse control unit from the back of the Autometer elect. speedo and not have to add any additional signal generators.

Please excuse my dumb question but i am unfamiliar with how all of this works. I looked up the vss for a 93 mustang and it appears that there is a connection for the speedometer cable and then an electrical plug connector. With an electronic speedometer, i am assuming that i wouldn't use the speedometer cable on the vss. Do i simply plug that connection? What about the electrical connector...do i need to get a plug off of anoth car to splice into with the wiring for my speedometer?
