I just swapped to a pertronix in the '65 - don't have points on anything now.

Who's still powering though on points?

Points on my coupe, and always will be.

I'll make mine a neutral vote: 1 car yes, 1 car Pertonix
My dad is the same way - his 66GT has point and always will, but the 66 vert, 67 coupe, and 64 Falcon Srint are Pertronix.

He'd say that himself, but he's not internet savy - and he likes it that way :)

What are points?

Oh yes, I think I've had them in my toolbox for years, just in case the Pertronix crashes. Much improved driveabiity and fuel mileage.

I still use points. What are these Petronix you speak of?

Is there a website to check out?

+1 for points (x2 for for a Branda dual point conversion dizzy in mine)
One set of points broke - physically- some years ago in middle of busy intersection (v. v. embarrassing, hazardous too...) but otherwise no hiccups.

On my '65 289-2v I had a Pertronix Ignitor II which crapped out after about 500 miles. I installed the points at the curbside site of that failure and haven't touched them in the four years since.

I have a magnetic pickup MSD dizzie in my '70 351C, which means points aren't an option. But I see no advantage over the points in the 289.

Points triggering a 6AL, rubbing block wick lubricator using 70 wt. synthetic. No point burning or block wear. 80,000 mi. on one set of points--so far. Check and reset dwell approx. every 20,000. John.
learn something everyday - I never thought of running an MSD through the points...

Yep, still have the points on a mildly hopped up 302. Spent a lot of time getting the dwell set right and it runs fine. I may switch to electronic later, probably put a Duraspark in it. I have seen some posts on here concerning Petronix units failing so I think I will stay away from them.

ALL my early Fords have points as original.2- 1969 428 SCJ Mustangs 1- '68 GT 350, 1- '63 T-Bird , 1- '67 Galaxie 428 / 4 speed I just love originality.....Of course I'm kinda biased on this subject.;) Heck, I'd put points in my wife's '06 GT if I could ............

Pertronix I installed in my vert a few weeks after I bought it almost 10 years ago. No probs. I hate points. I even had an Ampco (Prestolite) conversion on the six in my 69 coupe 30 years ago.
