I was talking too a guy who owns a junkyard here in town and he said he has one coming in next week. Says there is no motor or tranny. He said he hasnt seen the car first hand but was told its restorable. Is this something a person should persue if restorable or not?

As far as "rare" it would be very rare as Ford made "GT's" and "Mach 1's" but not a "Mach 1 GT" in 1969.

ok, then it must be just a gt then. being that he isnt a ford guy, he probally just thought all fastbacks in 69 were mach 1's. I wasnt familiar enough with the 69 cars too set him straight? And I guess u can say a gt is rare since there were less then 5000 of them made in 69

Here's the deal,,,as i have a very rare 69 GT fastback,,if it is a "GT" car it will most likely be a H-code or better,,although i have seen one factory 69 F-code GT coupe here in Louisville,,But bottom line is it MUST have the buck tag on the body and MUST say "GT" on the tag.No exceptions.A Mach-1,,,"GT" is rediculous,,never made one as all Mach's came with all the stuff a "GT" car had. Just something silly that that salvage yard owner was told and he believed it.I run up on that kind of crap all the time here in Kentucky,,,Hillbilly junk.If it is a Deluxe interior car(63-B"),,then it is very rare. But putting it back the way it came is going to be more expensive. Mine is a 63-B car,,,with White interior.Better check out all the vin's and if possible get a printout from Kevin Marti to find out exactly what the car was before you buy it.

69 GT's would have had an H code 351 2v as standard equipment the car could not be ordered with anything smaller but you could get the 351-4v, 390 or either of the 428's. GT's would have also had as standard equipment, the mach 1 style "non-functional" hood scoop, hood pins, guad exhaust tips (not avaliable on 351-2v)one year only GT pop open gas cap with the gear tooth pattern, driver side chrome remote mirror (sport mirrors were optional), disc brakes, argent painted styled steel wheels with GT caps (chrome wheel was optional as well) and i'm pretty sure they all got the visibility group as standard equipment as well (which included lighted ignition switch,day/night rear view mirror, under dash courtesy lamps, trunk light and parking brake warning light dash between ignition switch and windshield wiper switch). the GT also came with the competition suspension as well.

the coupes are actually the rarest of the 69 GT's, with the fastbacks having been more popular. the GT's do not command the same prices as the mach's but are slowly closing in price wise. i suspect the reason for this is that many people did not realize there was such a thing as a 69 GT. definitely post pics when it comes in.

one more thing to look at to get an idea if it is a true GT or not is one that most people aren't aware of and that would be that on many of the gt's with the "nonfunctional" hood scoop had a hole stamped from the factory under the scoop for a possible ram air option that never materialized for whatever reason. i think it would have been very similar to the 68-1/2 CJ and 68-69 cougar ram air systems, but no one really knows for sure. anyway if there is a sort of oblong hole stamped in the hood it is very likely the car is a factory GT. don't woryy if it doesn't have it though as not all of the GT's got the hood for some reason (probably supply ran out).

if you have any specific 69 GT questions i would be glad to help you out all i can. also when you go to look at the car and does it have the hood i was telling you about i'd appreciate if you could take a picture of the bottom side of the stamped hole and send me a copy i would really appreciate it. i am trying to document as many as possible because many MCA judges are under the impression that this hole was not stamped from the factory and the owner cut this hole himself, which is just not correct. anyway pics would be appreciated if you can do it.many thanks if you can do it and my email addy is bnickel4@cox.net feel free to email me anytime about 69 GT specific questions. good luck

I beg to differ...not all 69s came with body buck tags and none of the San Jose built cars did.

As far as the original poster's question of rarity, only 5,396 GTs were built in 1969.

as long as it is not totally disintegrated from rust, yes, that red gt vert would be worth saving. someday i would like to own one of each body style gt. i already have an m-code coupe, so i guess all i need is an s-code vert and a r-code sportsroof. i guess i could get another pair of coupes with one h-code and one q-code but otherwise identical in every way so i could play some street racing games ::

Per the Marti By The Numbers book convertible GT's had the lowest prodcution numbers in '69. 4084 fastbacks, 1483 hardtops, 1127 convertibles.

6694 GT's total for the '69 year.

Definetly a car worth saving, but I'm biased :). Not too many of them left on the street, so finding one in a junkyard in restorable condition is worth a look. bnickel has a pretty good knowledge of these cars and I can help too if you need questions answered.
