I saw the movie "John Wick" today. As you may have seen in the trailers, Keanu Reeves drives a Mustang in this movie. In the trailers, I couldn't tell if the car was a Mach 1 or what. Although the Mustang is John Wick's car and is extremely important as part of the plot, the car has very little actual screen time. So, it was hard to get a good look at it. Anyway, here are my observations with no real spoilers for the movie:

- John Wick's Mustang is definitely a 1969 fastback.

- It has the non-functional hood scoop standard for the 69/70 Mach 1.

- It has hood pins like a like a 1969 Mach 1.

- The hood is not blacked out like a '69 Mach 1. The car is painted a dark gray or charcoal color and has two, low-gloss black "rally stripes" on the hood, roof and rear of the car.

- This Mustang has the deck lid and chin spoilers.

- The car has Magnum 500 wheels, but I think they are painted differently than the factory paint scheme for the Magnum 500s.

- In some scenes, the car has Firestone "Wide Oval" tires. However, in one particular scene, the car clearly has BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires. So, I'm not sure if they built more than one car for the movie, or just did a tire swap during filming.

- There is a brief interior shot. It's a deluxe interior, as a '69 Mach 1 would have. I did notice the steering wheel is not correct for a Mach 1. I'm not sure what type of steering wheel it is, but my friend, who saw the movie with me and is also a Mustang guy, said he thought it was a Shelby wheel.

While the rally stripes aren't my thing on a 69 fastback, overall, the car is pretty cool. It appears mostly as a factory 69 fastback without a bunch of garish add-ons. (Nope. Not going to start another "Eleanor" thread. :) )

In one scene, Wick is at a gas station and someone is admiring the Mustang. "Boss 429", the guy says. "1970?" At this point, John Wick corrects the guy by stating it's a 1969. But he doesn't correct him about the car clearly NOT being a Boss 429. So, I don't know what's up with this exchange of dialogue. (??)

John Wick also drives a 1970 Chevelle SS in the film. At this point, my friend said, "Traitor!". :}0

Oh, my opinion of the movie? Overall, "John Wick" is a much better than average action flick. It has an EXTREMELY high body count, a pretty fast pace, an appropriate sense of humor here and there and will no doubt be a new movie franchise.

So, if the sequels continue to feature the '69 fastback, we can expect those cars to become even more popular and even more expensive.

I'm not sure if the story was just suggesting the bad guy is a moron, or what. But that car had no Boss 429 features at all.

I just saw "John Wick" was number 2 at the box office over the weekend. Word off mouth will likely keep the movie doing well for a while.

Ugh! Now I'll never get my hands on a '69 sportsroof!

I'm sure there was more than one copy of the Mustang for the movie. If the car were to get damaged in filming, they'd have to shut down shooting those sequences. Big $$$$$$$ lost to shut down production. Years ago I worked on two made for TV movies. I handled the movie cars. We often had multiple copies of cars for a variety of reason. I'd go pick movies cars from special companies in the Los Angeles area that rent cars for movies. You could tell them you wanted 5 charcoal grey 1969 fastbacks with Magnum 500's and they'd supply them.

Good point, Maxum. I know most movies and TV shows have multiple examples of key cars.

Strangely, I haven't been able to find any online articles about this movie Mustang. Typically, there are multiple stories placed online and in magazines to promote the movie.

Saw the movie. Pleasantly surprised at seeing the Mustang as well as the movie as a whole. I absolutely cringed however when he backed out of his garage into the pouring rain. I believe he had a beater in the garage for just such an occasion. What was he thinking!!!!

That exchange of dialogue regarding 'Boss 429" was a tongue in cheek comment written into the script exemplifying the prototypical comments that we receive quite often -'does that have a 350 in it?'

Could be. More likely the person writing the script didn't know anything about Mustangs, but he had heard of a Boss 429 and simply threw it into the dialogue. If that's the case, the screenwriter would be one of those people making the prototypical comments.

Hadn't heard of it, so I youtubed a couple of trailers... looks pretty awesome, might have to go see it.

The Boss 429 comment is pretty realistic. People are idiots. My shaker says "427" on it, and people still ask me what I have in it! "Hey, what's your 68 Mustang have in it". Lord, give me strength.......

I am going to make some enemy's here saying this but........"Cringed when he backed into the rain" come on, that has to be a trailer Queen remark or something. I know a lot of people cherish their Stang's but they can take some water you know. If they can not then they are not built right.

And the the movie does look good, it is nice to see a pretty stock looking Mustang for once in a movie, now if only they can make one with a Coupe. Was the last one "Cherry 2000"?

You got a point. But seeing as these cars rust out so easy, why push it? Cars today are built so differently than they were 40-50 years ago. And that includes inhibiting rust. I'll have zero rust with tons of new steel in my car when I'm done with it. And I won't intentionally take it in the rain.

If a car is properly sealed and painted rain isn't going to be a problem. That's my definition of a real car. (no offense) Mine is driven rain or shine because it's either or here in Seattle. And for the next 6 months guess which there's going to be more of? Still have to see the movie, it does indeed look good.

Exactly.

I realize what private property is and don't mind someone loving their car, but sometimes the concours/perfection crowd just ticks me off. Don't like that someone drives their Mustang for reals? STFU, it ain't your car.

My survivor convertible is starting to rust in places but screw it. It's just metal.

Hmmm. Didn't know this. I'm not familiar with any of those performers. Don't listen to them. Don't watch them.

If the band Rush ever uses a Mustang in a video, I'll know about it. :}0

Dark silver grey with black stripes. Seems to be a popular combination with movie Mustangs. How much of an increase in value because of this movie remains to be seen. Glad I got mine when I did.
