I took Woodchuck's advice on this starter earlier this year for my C4 to T5 157 tooth swap and it works fantastic!

 

Why not just shorten the post up 3/16 inch or so, it will never hit.

 

By application: 93 Mustang, 5.0, 5 speed.

 

Sometimes its just better to save your hard earned cash. Pull the original starter and trim enough of the stud off so you wont have clearance issues, or go for a mini starter for 150.00 or so.

 

It's $60 on amazon, I'm sure its can be added into his budget. You also get the added benefit of the starter spinning the engine much faster.

I was thinking about a high torque mini starter, range from 150 to 350$

I run the Summit racing branded mini starter on the mustang. It is re-clockable so you can rotate it to clear headers. I got tired of remanned in China stock starters failing on my truck and stranding me in various places so I got the same starter for my old F150 .

 

I try to run name brand parts that wont leave me stranded. Good is not cheap and Cheap is not good.
