The only shop and person that I have dealt with that has a very high degree of competency, loves classics....and isn't horrendously over prices is Merv's in Lorton. Merv himself works on the classic cars.

I am sure like everything and everyone prices have gone up in the past year or two. I do almost everything myself, but I go to him for alignments and sent a friend with a fastback to him. He did a LOT of work on that car and even took responsibility for a part failure that happened on his watch but probably wasn't his fault. So they are honest to boot.

For body shop work.....lol get out of state.....like out of the DMV altogether or be prepared to pay BIG bucks for paint and rust work. Shafers Restorations in Hagerstown Maryland is well regarded. But he was too pricey for me, even though by far not the priciest.

I also know a sheet metal/welder guy near Stafford who has done excellent work but...not quite what I would call fast or reliable :)

Super info! I live in fairfax station...so, Lorton is great. Any place you recommend not going to (you can PM me if you think better). I contacted ProSpeed Autoworks in Manassas...spoke with Pete...seemed reputable.

Aside from being too long of a list, I wouldn't know where not to go aside from just every day auto shops and Ford dealers :) who no longer know how to work on these cars, and if they do often get it wrong. I do most all mechanical and interior work myself. I only farm out paint, sheet metal work and even the alignments I've had to get under the car myself and center the wheel to get it 100% on point.

There is a guy here I know IRL who has a nice Fastback and goes to some of the more performance oriented shops in DC & VA he would know them better than me.

Good luck and enjoy!

Thank you. I am new to Mustangs...coming home if you will....owned a C3 vette for many years, now looking for a new adventure. Just got the '67 and looking forward to what is ahead. I don't know mustangs like I did the C3. I need new 3 spd manual bushings...is that a big job?

Cool! Couldn’t tell you on the manual 3sp…I have a C4 (transmission not the vette lol). But search the 20+ years of archived posts here and you may find an answer. Post new threads specific to each question and you’ll get detailed replies. General threads get drowned out in ‘stuff’ and talk about the best oils and such 🤣

I also live in Fairfax Station. Merv's is awesome. They've done work on both my '70 Mach 1 and my 1995 Impala SS, and I've always been very happy with the results. For body work, I've had good luck with Service King in Lorton. They're just around the corner from Merv's.

They primarily do collision work, but they also did some restoration work on my Impala recently. I don't know if they'll be interested in doing rust repair, but it can't hurt to ask. The manager I work with was Matt Romano.
