My kingdom for dust boot retaining ring

Global west upper and lower control arms with a stock moog K-8036 ball joint. At some point, probably at the TUV, stuff got removed and put back without putting the retaining ring back on the dust boot. they did this with my rear brake caliper. Removed and put back on but not tight enough and it fell off and got destroyed. So my dust boots keep falling down because there is no retaining ring. A call to Moog shows that they don’t have any spare retaining rings and if you want a retaining ring, you have to purchase an entirely new K-8036 ball joint kit. This is a bummer because the ball joints themselves are in perfect condition, it is just that the dust boots keep falling off. So I have to purchase a new set. It seems wasteful.

Yeah. Please edumacate us on this TUV nonsense.
They need to take something apart to do what exactly?
It’s likely that someone on the VMF has a couple retainers they can send to you.

Oh, and just so you know….. If some genius removes the four bolts to do whatever the hell they’re doing, at the very least, the stover lock nuts should be replaced with new. Stover nuts are actually “one time” use, regardless of what some folks seem to think. The bolts themselves should probably be replaced with new…. But that topic can be debated.

If they see after market parts, they will often pull them off to check for TUV approval when tou trying to get a historical license plate. Non approved parts accrue points and there is a number of points that = no H plate. For example, I was not going to get approval for an H plate because I had an HEI distributor. We had to pull that off for the TUV inspection and put a standard points distributor on. Also, I had to remove the Holly electric fuel pump and put a mechanical fuel pump in because I was not going to pass inspection with those parts installed and get an H plate

I thought of that as well as the stainless steel hose connector clamp with a screw that you use to tighten hoses against a fitting. I called to GW and explained the problem. They said none of the fixes suggested here had proven to work in the past. They tried to get boot mfgs to special make boots that can be used as replacements that fit with their older style UCAs but nobody was willing to do so. With the older UCAs and no retaining clip,. they say the only real fix is a new Moog K8036 ball joint and for God’s sake, don’t lose the dust boot retaining clip. They said with their newer UCAs, they designed them with a notch so that replacement boots can lock in there ok. But for the old ones, the only fix is a new moog k8036 ball joint. I have ordered two and will have the retaining clips duplicated for future use.

Sorry for that PITA situation. Like Woodchuck says, TUV owes you some compensation.
Sounds like a pretty cheesy regulatory organization, based upon some of what you wrote.
Our California gun laws are similar to what you’re faced with. We now have folks out here who worked hard to jump through all the hoops for concealed carry that have had their permits basically made null and void…. Because now literally all public areas are “gun free” zones.

the problem is I cannot prove they caused the damage. The bigger issue is that I am the “Auslander” and the foreigner always loses in Germany and the NL. Working like 60 to get out.
