Yup, what you have there is the original design. It seems most of the aftermarket senders have a threaded stud. I was able to find an adaptor that screws on the male thread so I could use the original wire harness.

I think you can just slide a female spade connector end on there if you push it on from the side.

Just the normal ones you probably have laying around like this:

Ok that pic came out a bit big, but just try to slide it on from the side and see if it fits.

 

Okay, I'd RRREEEALLY like some of those terminals that size, maybe one about the size of a football to offer to my neighbor friend the next time he asks to borrow some!
