This is my current project....1969 mach 1. The theme is black and silver. A couple of people asked for photos. I am happy with the fit of my FPA headers and cable clutch clearance.

Looks great, gonna be a sweet ride. Seems to clear the cable at the bellhousing by quite a bit, plenty of ground clearance too?

I wasn't aware FPA made a 1 7/8" header for a 351W. Are you using a cable clutch? Got any pics?

Yes, good ground clearance. It is just below the frame rail maybe about an 1". For the cable clearance, the no. 3 tube tucks close to the block while the other tubes (1.2.4) push out toward the shock tower and steering box. The cable sneaks between. My cable came with a 4" stripe of "header wrap" that protects the cable from the header (by tube 3 and 4). There is decent clearance. There is a lot of clearance by the bell housing where the cable connects to the clutch fork. On the passenger side it is tight by the scattershield (by the starter).

The engine is a 408 that I built. The heads are SVT X302's (ported and polished). It has a roller cam with a pretty good lift. It has an RPM air gap intake. I suspect the HP will be 475-500.

Thanks for the compliments Chris. The project is rolling along pretty well. A bit slow but fun none the less. I am trying to stay on the safe side of restomod. Wheels will be my next purchase that will have a big impact on the look. Maybe 18's in back and 17's up front. Everything has been replaced on the car. The paint and body work are the best that I have seen in quite a while. I found a great painter who took his time and took pride in his work. Price was great as well. When it's all said and done, it should bring a few smiles.

My headers are 1-3/4" stepped from 1-5/8". I think when you get in the 500 HP range 1-7/8" are the way to go. I think they are about $50 more for the stepped setup.

I have the same setup...408, 3" exhaust, 1 7/8" fpa header. engine dynoed at 460HP at flywheel. What did you get? mine is in a 70 mach 1.

mike
Mike, what mufflers did you go with? I was thinking of spin tech. Is the 3" exhaust crazy loud?

Glad to see they fit great. I like the coating on yours. I am still waiting for mine to arrive.

You sure you don't mean 1 5/8" header tubes? 1 7/8 is huge, big block area. The biggest Windsor headers I could find were 1 3/4.

The car has come ALONG way ! You will have to post some before pics.

What kind of wheels are you considering ? They make the Magnum 500 wheels in 17" now.
Are you adding the side stripes ?
No side stripes. Not sure on the wheels as of yet. I want to stuff the largest tire I can in the back. Here is a pic before it went to the media blaster..

Youre engine looks beautiful! Keep it up!

p.s. What wheels are on there now? Do you know who makes them?

Very nice...looks like those headers should support some nice HP.

If you have any questions about max tire size let me know...just rememember to consider the max section width of each tire manufacturers specs...not just the metric size alone.

I'm shooting for 295's on an 18" rim with 5.5" backspace. I have the rear lowered 1". Think they will fit? I like the comp ta's..

You know, I was not going to post anything unless someone made some stupid remark about Stan's headers. But I knew it was too good to last. So, here we go for those that never saw the original Stan and FPA headers thread and for those who googled "Stan" or "FPA" or Ford Power Application" and came here....

Wow, big feat of R&D and craftsmanship, he made a pair of small block headers that barely fit for three or four times the cost of everyone esle's headers that fit. :)

Stupid remarks come from many sources.
While this is true, Dustys' below comment isn't one of them.

The whole point of Stans "custom" FPA headers is that they should be made from scratch to overcome unique obstacles/drivetrain combinations, thus the much higher price. When you pay through the nose for "custom" headers and they don't fit, why did you bother in the first place. You can buy $199 headers that won't fit.

Jumping back out of it,
Dave

That is the question you should ask up front before purchasing something that is much more expensive than other products. "Will these headers do something that others won't?". If so, then maybe they're worth it. If not, well, "A fool and his money...".
They certainly are of higher quality (hand made, TIG welded) and don't hang as low. If they fit, to some that, in itself, might be worth it.

Thanks! I'm happy. At least this thread isn't as hot as the guy trying to get his car from Tonyspony.. I was a little worried when the popcorn started evidencing itself in the threads! Isn't this a great site? Where else can you find out so many things about products, service, mustangs, popcorn....
