Replacing the transmission

Well, the day has finally arrived (possibly). I found a real good deal for a Tremec and I’m hoping to not get beat to it this weekend. Before I go out and buy something I can’t return, though, does anybody know how a 04 T3650 fits in the transmission tunnel of a 1970? I understand T5’s are the regular and the T3650’s are larger but I don’t know to what extent.

Also, if I’m making the T3650 out to sound better than it is, please let me know that they’re not worth the time/money.

Are you sure it will bolt up to your engine? I was under the impression that the transmissions for the OHC V8 engines do not play well with the Windsor/Cleveland SBFs ... but I could be wrong. There is a thread about this here

I am not familiar with that model but just read the torque rating is in the 350 ft lb range. Is that going to be enough for you?
I am thinking I would save up and look at something like a TKX with almost double the torque rating. You may want more engine in the future and you don’t want to have to buy twice on the trans. Just my $.02.

Hey, your two cents are always welcome when they’re being used to save my behind. I’ve got a stock Windsor 302 that I might one day upgrade to have roller cams like the later years, but as of now 350 foot pounds is more than enough.
