Ok guys..looks like I may be getting an 05 mustang in the near future   I recieved this months issue of Mustang Monthly, and of course it had a big write up of the 05's..swmbo seen it and made the comment that it looked pretty cool, and wouldnt mind getting one :jawdrop: ..well, needless to say, we "delayed" eating dinner, hopped into the Jeep and headed for the Ford dealership..(ordered chinese to pick up on the way home  ) The dealer only had a 6 cyl left on the lot, and swmbo didnt like it because it didnt look like the one in the mag..with the black rocker moldings, and lack of fog lights,it just doesnt look right....soooo..She says "I guess we HAVE to order the GT" :jawdrop: :jawdrop: :highfive: :highfive: ...alas... ..It will have to be an automatic. :horror:.she cant drive stick..dont want to learn how (already tried to teach her) and it will be her car, but if that is the only consession I have to make, I can live with that! And the news gets better..my brother works in the body shop at the Ford dealer, so I get to use one of his "plans" which he figures will bring a $26,000 price tag down to around $20,000. He (thinks) the plan will allow him (me) to buy (any car) at 4% below dealer cost..now the bad news...he already used up his plans for the year,(not sure how many he gets..2, I think) and I will have to wait till Jan until I can order a mustang.How-ever, he said that may not be all bad..if the new Mustang sales dont go as projected (for our area)Ford might offer up some rebates, which can be used with the plan..He thinks that with the areas unemployment rate, and general poor economy here, there would be a good chance of that happening.
They were all out of brochures so I am not sure what all the available options are, but once I get to start "shopping"..this could get fun :highfive:

just wanted to share..I thought it was pretty cool that swmbo suggested it...well....kinda  :naive:

Why don't you try to teach her again?? My wife and I bought an 01 GT with a 5 speed and she drives it 80% of the time and really loves it. I took it back to Park City and even had out pictures taken at Bonneville. I've driven both an auto and it's really a come down from the 5 speed. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with you , but she said no way will she attempt to learn again....and even though I havent driven either yet, I am sure it will be a little disappointing..the auto comes with something like a 3.30 gears and the manual has 3.55 not alot of difference, but enough to feel..my brother was with the general mng when he took one for a test drive, and all he could say is "that thing is fast!"..in fact, he is a mopar guy, but he is using his "other" plan to get an 05 mustang as well...I will only be driving the car once in a while, so I think I can live with the auto..besides, I have 2 daughters..1 is 17 and the other gets her permit this month..though they wont be driving it without one of us in the car, when we are, with an auto, they will feel more comfortable...

maybe the next one will be mine, and I can get the manual

Congrats. Dont let bob see this post, though
hehe, so true.

Isn't "Automatic-GT" an oxymoron?

Does your wife have good financial reflexes? If so, take her on a stroll through the classifieds to let her see the difference in re-sale between standards and automatics. Long gone are the days when and automatic was considered an optional "upgrade".

Anyways, congratulations.

Are you sure you want to wait to order one?

I've been told by many dealerships that they are limited production- well, the GT's at least...
::

anyway- congratulations

I wouldnt waste my time with an auto.

Normally I wouldn't be for the slushbox in the GT. But a slushbox GT is better then no GT! While cruising Motor Trend, IIRC, while waiting for my wife to do her shopping in the supermarket, I read a test of the 05 with the automatic. It's a 5 speed unit lifted from the Jag/Lincoln LS that was they said was very nice! It shifted very well and gave a very good account of itself. IIRC, it was about just as fast as the 5 speed stick.

Congrats Joe. I hope you plan on finishing the fastback still? Maybe we can run into each other at a show again this spring. I hope to have more free time next year to hit more shows. bob

"Limited GT production"? That's just the standard Delarship line. Just trying to get you to pull the trigger and buy the car they have on stock. I predict that there will be 05 GT's everywhere. Reason? Simply put, they are gorgeous. I have a 70 Mach 1 in Medium Lime Metallic. If I get the 05, I might have to order the "Legend Lime" clearcoat. So it won't clash with the Mach in the garage.

yeah , i read an article that had the 05 auto GT going about mid 13's......

but, the stick would be so much more fun . i have an 01 GT 5 spd and if it was an auto i dont think it would be nearly as fun bc the motors are quite PEAKY. from everything i have read these new 05 motors are even MORE peaky than the older mod motors. HP peaks around 6000 now instead of about 5200 and the torque peaks around 4500 instead of around 4100 for the mod motors in the older GT like my 01.....

rowing the gears yourself with a clutch will realllllllly be an advantage with a peaky motor.just something to think about. my 01 feels pretty damn doggish if i try to get on it with the rpms below 3500+, but after that it really pours on the heat
