T-5 and 9" rear (both need work)

I have a t5 out of a 86 GT for sale. I installed it last week and there is a consistent whine during gears 1-3. The bearing rebuild kits are around $250, but I don't want to mess with it. It has a new bearing retainer on the front and the gears look like they are in pretty good shape. The seller said it had about 65k miles on it. $100.00 obo

I also have a 9" rear out of a 71 Mach 1. I disassembled it to inspect the components. There is a small amount of surface rust on a few of the teeth and the axles but I believe it could be cleaned up and reused if desired. It will need cleaning and reassembly. It's an open diff and has the 28 spline axles. The case and hog head look like they are in decent shape, but could use a good scrubbing before reuse. $150.00 obo

Lol I want both of those things, but fear shipping to cali. Will that 9" work on a 68?

Edit: with the right wheel backspacing, it will

I'm getting some private messages so I figured I would add the information here too:

  • Yes I would be willing to ship them - fedex charges around $85 to most of the country for the weight of the T5.
  • T-5 is the world class version - I confirmed this when I bought it.
  • As for the axle, I originally was going to use the casing, hog head and axles and just replace the differential and gears so I took it all apart. About that time I got a great offer on a Auburn diff and 4:11 gears so I just upgraded my existing unit. The axle is disassembled currently which is nice for shipping and for cleaning it up. It didn't have brakes. I think the perches are in the same location for a 68 and a 71, but I can always measure to confirm if desired.

I also have a 10.5 King Cobra Style Clutch Kit that was purchased for the T-5. It has only been driven on a test drive around the neighborhood. Purchased from CJPony Parts for $140....

asking $90 for a basically brand new clutch kit.

I'm not willing to mess with shipping this stuff. It's to heavy and a pain in the butt to organize.

that T5 needs new syncro's at the very least and probably a full rebuild. that's typical of a T5 especially one that old. had the same issue with the one in my '86. eventually swapped it out with a Tremec 3550 after grenading it 4-5 times:p.

Just a +1 for ScottinVA, we've been trying to get the stuff shipped to Cali and he really went above and beyond trying to make it happen. I'm sorry our deal didn't work out, I really hope you find a local buyer.
