I am nearing the end of my t5 swap and one of the next steps is installing the starter. I have the 164t flywheel which requires the Bronco manual starter in order to engage the flywheel properly (needs to be moved away from the flywheel). I have a perfectly good starter that came with the donor car and would rather not spend the $$ on a new starter along with not having to remember what part came off what for future replacement. My question is regarding shim/s... is there any reason to avoid shimming the starter 3/8" with this part?

I finished my T-5 swap in early January using the 164-tooth flywheel and SN-95 bellhousing. I used 3 shims on my stock starter and so far have had no problems. I did have a slight issue getting the starter into the bellhousing and had to grind a little away.

My trans was from a '04 v6 mustang so I had the lower fork location which was a pain to get long tube headers around.

NAPA has (or at least had) starter shims.

Alright... not to hijack your thread Jase, but, I'm in the middle of a C4 to T5 swap and this is the first I'm hearing about this starter thing. My T5 and bell housing are from a 95 5.0 Mustang, and the starter I have is the stock SB Ford one that was on my 351W/C4. I haven't purchased the flywheel yet... I need a little education (it would appear). Apologies for the intrusion... I came here to offer some help. Looks like I need some.

I pretty sure the only time its a problem is when using a 164t flywheel, otherwise I don't think it will be an issue.
