I see a lot of T5 swap "what parts do I need?" questions, so I thought I'd put this together. i finally got the last of my parts ordered last night. My car is a '68 with the original C4 auto. I'd say I was fairly frugal about the parts I bought. Depending on how complete of a package you get when you buy a T5, you can get a bunch of the parts with it like the flywheel, block plate and clutch which will save you some cash.

Bellhousing - Included w/transmission
Shifter base - Included w/transmission
Clutch Fork - Included w/transmission

Wow. Those parts add up fast.
Yep, there's a lot of little stuff that people don't think of when doing a swap, they only think of the big things like the tranny, crossmember, clutch and yoke.

Thought I would give some input to this thread and share my costs.

This is for my early 67 Mustang originaly 6 cylinder already had a T5 out of a 87 T-Bird turbo Coupe. I converted it to a V8 at the same time upgrading the tranny to a world clsss T5. So I already had the tranny mount. Original Driveline fit the 6 cylinder and non world class T5 with an adapter plate and original 3 speed bellhousing but is 1" too long and too small (diameter/strength) so I needed a new drive shaft.

T5 World Class Transmission out of 94 Mustang GT - (used) Traded for it
T5 94 Mustang GT Bellhousing (used) - Came with Trans
Hurst Shifter base (used) - Kept the that was on the Non-world class
Clutch Fork (new) - Came with Trans
Yoke (used) - Ebay $33
Drive Shaft (new) Ebay $165
Transmission mount (used) - Already had
Flywheel (new) - $99
Block plate (used) - Came with my 302
Clutch kit (new) - Ebay $136
Longacre 36" hydraulic line (new part #LON-28050) - $30
Throwout bearing (new) - Included w/clutch kit
Roller pilot bearing (new) - Included w/clutch kit
Clutch Alignment tool (new) - Included w/clutch kit
Flywheel bolts (new) - $12 from Parts store
Thread sealer for flywheel bolts - Local parts store $6

Braket to mount Hydrulic slave (made) - A couple beers
Firewall Reinforcment mounting plate for Wilwood Master - A couple beers
Starter to fit 94 Mustang GT T5 Bellhousing (used) - Ebay $38
Offset pushrod for wilwood master to pedal (dazecars.com now has them for 67) - Buying soon I think about - $40

Hm. Honestly, my big ish is the big-buy items and actually finding some of these older cars to yank a T-5 out of. Frankly, I just wish someone had a list of vehicles that -had- the T-5 to begin with, so I could go hunting through my pull-a-part's. As for the nickel-and-diming? I can deal.

I used a T5 yoke with my new driveshaft. You can use the old one without having to cut of the non splined section on the end if you want.

Should I pick up a 67-8 clutch pedal? or a modern one?

I thought ahead and put a manual tranny brake pedal in when I did my front discs.

#13 ·
Yoke w/driveshaft from Fox body - Included w/transmission
Wilit: Did you have to modify the Fox Body driveshaft, or did it fit perfectly? Thanks.

I'll add...
I have a simlar list of parts and P/Ns, for when I did the swap on my early 5 bolt CVT. I used all new parts except for the clutch/brake pedal assembly, 5 bolt bell, & driveshaft (it fit). I have it on a spreadsheet, if interested.
It does add up fast!
This is a good informative thread.

If anyone has any of these parts they want to unload, pm me.

Thread Revival!

I thought I'd add my 2 cents here for anyone researching this swap. I am pretty much done with my conversion from a C4 to the T5. My parts list is listed here. A word of caution: Do NOT buy a used T5 from some random dude you find on Craigslist! Thats just my experience anyways... I picked one up for $300, got it home, popped it open and found the synchros were blown to smithereens. SWINDLER! At least the $300 included the late model bellhousing and clutch fork. Lesson learned.

T5 tranny $300, then $1295 for a new one...
Bellhousing - included
Clutch Fork - included
Transmission mount - $19
Flywheel 28oz 157tooth - $280
Clutch fork cover - $48
Clutch kit $215
Mustang Steve Cable Clutch kit w/pedal $330
T5 crossmember - $150
Shifter/handle/knob - $185
Shift Boot - $26
Speedo gear - $9.50
Backup lite pigtail - $19.50
Engine block plate - $60 (found cheaper after the fact $25)
Flywheel bolts - $15
Pressure plate bolts - $7

TOTAL: $2959 + $160 for driveshaft shortening/u-joints

PS - I have Hooker competition headers and they're smack in the way of the clutch cable... still working on that. I think I'm going to cut the offending tube and reroute it. then wrapping heavily with header wrap.:pirate:

$300 for a used transmission with bad synchros sounds like a fair price to me.

I paid $460 for my used T-5 with bellhousing.

My swap was like this

89 t-5
Bell housing
Clutch
Flywheel
Throughout bearing
68 clutch pedal
Zbar linkage and adjustable rods because it's easier.
Shifter
Clutch fork
Block plate
Got a package for 900 bucks
Miscellaneous hardware 50 bucks
T-5 cross member 150
Driveshaft shortening and balance with new u u joints 170

Total was 1270 +- 20 bucks or so.

And it's all in my car and running well.

I've read that many are going with the hydraulic system from Dazecars, I assume it's working well since I haven't read otherwise. On the other hand I've also read and been told you might have to add a little preload to the system for it to work properly. For me not having any experience with this and from reading different places that you should avoid this (preload), I'm not sure what to think anymore. Any thoughts regarding this?
Would it be possible to just buy a MC with larger bore size and stroke?
